Pepper Nuts
Boil 15 minutes:
- 1 quart corn
syrup
- 3 cups white
sugar
- 1 1/2 cup
sweet milk
- 1 cup lard (generous)
- 1 or 2 tsp.
cardamom
- 1 1/2 tsp.
soda
- 1 1/2 tsp.
cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. anise
extract
- 1 tsp. pepper
Let cool,
add:
- 1 tsp. lemon
extract
- 1 tsp. vanilla
extract
- 1 tsp. almond
extract
- 2 tbs. baking
powder
- Add enough
flour to make a stiff dough (about 7 lbs.)
Let stand over night.
Add more flour if necessary. Roll into narrow rolls about 1/4 inch across. Cut
in pieces 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Roll into balls. Bake 375 degrees F. on greased
cookie sheets.
